AI that helps you learn, not cheat.
A study and research companion for high schoolers, college students, and lifelong learners. Built on the GearHead memory platform but tuned for one thing: helping students actually understand what they are studying.

When AI does your homework for you, your brain does not do the work. When your brain does not do the work, you do not learn. When you do not learn, you have to keep using AI for everything. It is a dependency loop dressed up as a productivity gain, and it is doing real damage to a generation of students.
GearHead Student Edition is built around a different default: explain instead of answer. Teach instead of complete. Build understanding instead of producing output. The AI is there to help you get smarter, not to replace your thinking.
That is not a marketing position. It is a deliberate product design that runs through every interaction, every prompt setting, and every parental control.
What makes it different
Three design choices that change how AI interacts with a student.
Explanation over answers
Ask Student Edition a question and the default response is an explanation of how to think about it, not the answer. You can ask for the answer too, but you have to ask. The default protects learning.
Citation discipline
Every research answer comes with real citations to the actual sources. Same 60+ data sources that power GearHead AI: academic databases, government sources, peer-reviewed journals. Students learn what real research looks like.
Memory that builds skills
The memory tracks what concepts the student has worked through, what they understand well, what they keep getting stuck on. Suggests review when patterns emerge. Builds learning skills, not dependency.
What a homework question should look like.
"Help me with this physics problem: a 2kg ball falls from a 10m roof. What is its velocity at impact?"
What other AI does
"The velocity at impact is approximately 14.0 m/s. Using the formula v = sqrt(2gh), where g = 9.8 m/s squared and h = 10m: v = sqrt(2 * 9.8 * 10) = sqrt(196) = 14.0 m/s."
The student copies the answer. Submits it. Never engages with why that formula applies, what energy conservation means, or what would change if the mass were different.
What Student Edition does
"Good problem. This is about energy conservation. The ball starts with potential energy (because of its height) and ends with kinetic energy (because of its motion). Try this: what is the potential energy at 10m? What is the kinetic energy formula? If they are equal, can you solve for velocity?"
If the student is still stuck after trying, it walks through the next step. The student arrives at 14.0 m/s themselves, and now they understand why mass cancelled out.
Real visibility and control.
On the Family plan, parents and guardians get meaningful tools to support how their student uses AI, without being intrusive about it.
- Weekly digest of what subjects the student worked on and where they made progress.
- Configurable defaults for "explain only" vs "show answers" by subject.
- Topic limits for content areas you want the student to handle without AI assistance.
- Conversation transparency available on demand for younger users, with appropriate privacy graduation for older students.
- Same security model as the flagship: encryption, no training on student data, audit trails.
